The Constitution of the Parochial Council

1.     The main aim of the Parochial Council is to:

a.      Provide support, guidance, advice and counsel to the Parish Clergy.

b.     Provide feedback to the Parish Priest on people’s wishes and concerns

c.      To support and achieve the aims of the Parish Mission

2.     The Parochial Council will further be responsible for assisting the Parish Clergy to manage and oversee the smooth, efficient, and effective running of the Parish and its activities.

3.     Membership of the Parochial Council shall be open to all Parishioners of Our Lady of Lourdes & St. Cecilia, Blandford Forum,

4.     Election to the Parochial Council will take place at the Parish Annual General Meeting (AGM).

5.     To become a member of the Parochial Council a candidate will need to be nominated and seconded.

6.     Parochial Council Members will serve for two years.  However, retiring members may, if they so wish, offer themselves for re-election.

7.     Non-elected members of the Parochial Council shall comprise:

a.      A Member of the Parish Clergy, who will have the title of President of the Parochial Council

b.     Chairperson of the Parish Finance and General-Purpose Committee

c.      Secretary to the Parochial Council (if not already a member)

8.     It shall be in the ‘gift’ of the Parish Priest / Priest in Charge to make these appointments.

9.     If not appointed by the Parish Priest, the Chair of the Parochial Council, and a Vice-Chair will be chosen by the Parochial Council from among its members at their first meeting after the AGM (See note below). The Chair and Vice-Chair should not ordinarily hold their respective positions for longer than two years in succession.

10.The Constitution shall be amended only by resolution put to, seconded, and passed by a majority vote, at the AGM (See note below).

11.The Parochial Council is not a shadow of the Finance and General Purposes Committee or vice-versa. However, whenever possible the interests of the FGP Committee will be taken into account.

12.Where decisions of the Parish Council have a financial implication, these will be carried back to the FGP Committee by its Chairperson who will be on the Parochial Council.



In the case of a newly formed Parochial Council elected/appointed members and this constitution will be confirmed at the first meeting.
